Real-time CARS spectroscopy in a semi- industrial furnace

Abstract
The use of CARS is undergoing rapid growth for noninvasive measurements of gas temperature and composition in a broad range of practical combustion systems,1 such as internal combustion engines, bluff-body combustors, and turbine combustors. We report here the application of multiplex CARS techniques to a large-scale (3- × 3- × 6-m3 i.d.) experimental section of a steel slab reheating furnace to get information about CARS spectrometer reliability and measurement accuracy in different operating conditions of the burners. The general spectrometer layout is shown in Fig. 1. Anti-Stokes signals generated in the measurement channel and in a reference cell were piped through two silica- silica optical fibers connected to two different entrance slits of an f/10.5 polychromator with 1-m focal length equipped with a 2400-grooye/mm holographic grating. A tiltable mirror was provided to select the desired slit.Keywords
