PARTIAL PURIFICATION OF CELLULASE FROM A WOOD-ROTTING BASIDIOMYCETE

Abstract
Polyporus palustris, a "brown-rot", was studied as a source of cellulolytic enzyme. The organism was grown in a synthetic medium in submerged culture. From the cell-free culture filtrate, through a series of purification procedures, protein-containing crystals were obtained. These were enzymatically active toward carboxymethyl cellulose and filter paper. Further purification and characterization of the crystals are in progress.
