Reaction times for naming successive letters of the alphabet.

Abstract
Presented individual letters to 25 undergraduates and asked Ss to name the following letter of the alphabet as quickly as possible without making errors. RT was 300 msec. shorter for letters near the beginning of the alphabet than for those near the end. The function relating RT to alphabetic position was compared with a function relating decision times to alphabetic position from an earlier study. It is suggested that varying RTs may indicate differences in difficulty of initiating response sequence from diverse letters and the hypothesized existence of individually-preferred points of alphabet entry.
