Covalent compounds of quadrivalent transition metals. Part VI. Spectroscopic studies on titanium, vanadium, and zirconium diethyldithiocarbamates

Abstract
Data on the electronic, i.r., Raman, e.s.r., and mass spectra, and magnetochemistry of the compounds M(S2CNEt2)4(M = Ti, V, or Zr), V(S2CNEt2)3, VO(S2CNEt2)3, and VO(S2CNEt2)2 are reported and discussed. It is deduced that the compound V(S2CNEt2)4, which readily dissociates on heating to V(S2CNEt2)3, is eight-co-ordinate (dodecahedral). The electronic and anisotropic e.s.r. spectra of the compound V(S2CNEt2)4 are interpreted in terms of crystal-field splitting of d orbitals in the V4+ ion.
