Abstract
The ability to investigate cellular processes in vitro permits detailed analysis of the process and its molecular components. Eukaryotic translation and expression is one system that has been well studied. This overview describes the development of in vitro systems, including such approaches as continuous‐flow systems, coupled transcription/translation, and the incorporation of non‐natural amino acids. It also discusses molecular and genetic studies to probe translation, including post‐translational fate of the synthesized proteins. Keywords
