Abstract
Commercial ACTH could be separated into at least 4 zones by electrophoresis on paper. By precipitating 20 mg. of ACTH with trichloroacetic acid to 5% or 8%, active, nonprotein supernatant containing 80% of the ACTH activity was obtained. The ACTH could be obtained from the supernatant by concentrating in vacuo, adding acetone to 98%, permitting to stand at 0[degree] c for 24 hrs., and centrifuging. 35 mg. of ACTH yielded 2.5 mg. of concentrated material, of which 1 [mu]g. was equal in activity to 10-15 [mu]g. of the original by the ascorbic-acid-depletion test. Keywords
