To the Editor: Spontaneous bleeding into the anterior chamber of the eye without apparent cause is most unusual in adults. We have seen one such hyphema occurring during hemodialysis in a 32-year-old woman with a long history of chronic hypertension, glomerulonephritis, and bilateral papilledema.The patient did not receive anticoagulants between hemodialyses and was therefore given 10,000 units of heparin intravenously at the start of dialysis. The treatment lasted for four hours. The blood pressure was 180/100 mm Hg before dialysis and remained stable throughout.
