Abstract
Optical study of perovskite type Pb2CoWO6 has revealed that, on cooling, the cubic crystal changes to monoclinic below 20°C. New superstructure reflections appearing below 20°C indicate that the low temperature phase is antiferroelectric incommensurate phase. Incommensurate modulation of lattice periodicity has been studied as a function of temperature. The modulation wave vector lies on the monoclinic ac-plane and main atomic displacement seems to occur along the baxis. The temperature range of the incommensurate phase is very wide, from 20°C down to lower than −120°C.
