Abstract
A method is descr. for the quantitative determination of tryptophane in plant material. Changes in the tryptophane content of peas and clover were followed at different stages of growth. In both species the % tryptophane content (total N basis) reaches a maximum before blooming and then falls rapidly. The absolute tryptophane content also has its first maximum before blooming, then falls slightly and rises again towards ripening. It is assumed that tryptophane plays an important part in the metabolism of the immature plant, possibly as a source of growth-promoting factors ([beta]-indolylacetic acid). This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
