Abstract
Modern sediments from bathyal depths in the Vella Gulf and Blanche Channel, New Georgia, Solomon Islands, contain variably rich and diverse agglutinated foraminiferal assemblages. Thirty-nine species are identified from between 510 m and 1,225 m water depth. An increase in abundance and diversity between 865 m and 1,070 m appears to be associated with the regional oxygen-maximum zone between 450 m and 750 m and a salinity-minimum zone below 800 m.
