Abstract
In a Scotland‐wide study of flood seasonality, the White Laggan Burn in the Galloway Hills of SW Scotland was found to be exceptional in its registration of late summer events. This paper compares flood seasonality data for rivers in SW Scotland and highlights the unusual occurrence of 61 per cent of White Laggan events between June and September. The seasonal characteristics of hourly rainfall series are examined, and the significance of flood seasonality is discussed with specific reference to stream ecology.
