Phenomenological Analysis of Nucleon Diffraction Dissociation in the Drell-Hiida-Deck Model

Abstract
We quantitatively investigate diffraction processes π+p →π++n) and π+p →π+0p) at 16 GeV/c and some other reactions at different energies by the Drell-Hiida-Deck (DHD) model with a single adjustable parameter. It is found that without any absorption effects our DHD model can fairly well explain global features of diffraction dissociation; low πN-mass enhancement, sharp forward peak in momentum transfer squared, slope-mass correlation and decay angular distributions in the Gottfried-Jackson frame. Some comments are made on the limit of applicability of our model.
