Abstract
Monoclonal antibodies were produced to an isolate of Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus (BYDV) from Victoria. The antibodies were characterized by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) using both infected plant extracts and purified type isolates of BYDV. Three antibodies were found to be specific for the PAV serotype and one antibody gave weak reactions with both PAV and MAV serotypes. One PAV-specific antibody reacted with the viral coat protein band in Western transfer immunoblots of electrophoresed virus. None of the antibodies were capable of trapping virus in the first stage of ELISA, indicating low binding affinity. Keywords
