Oriented fibrin gels formed by polymerization in strong magnetic fields

Abstract
Highly oriented fibrin gels are formed when polymerization takes place slowly in a strong magnetic field. The protofibrils pack into a 3-dimensional crystalline lattice. Magnetically induced birefringence may be useful for studying polymerization. The applications of strong magnetic fields as a tool is discussed.
