Electrolytic Recovery of Silver from Colour Bleach Fix Solution

Abstract
Potentiostatic studies have been made to recover silver from colour bleach fix solutions (CBFS) by employing a rotating cylindrical electrode (RCE) from -T).5V to -0.75V vs SCE at 28-30°C. From an initial concentration of 4.5 g.dm-3 (4,500 ppm) of silver solution, its level is brought down to 500 ppm with a good silver deposit in powdery form without sulphiding. The effect of cathode potential and rotation on cathode current efficiency has been studied. The results of a simple batch silver recovery run are presented. Compared with the low value of current efficiency reported in the literature, an increase in its value is achieved by a combined physical and chemical procedure prior to the electrolysis.
