Abstract
This report deals with a 20-year-old Thai woman who had prolonged fever and cutaneous vesicles and died after 40 days of illness. Autopsy revealed severe focal necrosis and hemorrhage of the liver and adrenal glands. On microscopic examination, intranuclear inclusions of the types describes in herpes simplex infection were seen in the liver and adrenal cortical cells. In addition, cells bearing cytomegalic inclusion bodies were present in the lungs and intestine. It was concluded that this case represents a double viral infection, namely, disseminated herpes simplex and cytomegalic, inclusion disease.
