Abstract
A facile synthesis is reported of the cation trans-[Mo(CO)2(diphos)2]+(where diphos is 1,2-bisdiphenylphosphinoethane) by aerial oxidation of acid solutions of cis-[Mo(CO)2(diphos)2] in tetrahydrofuran. The compound reported to be cis-[Cr(CO)2(diphos)2] was found to be a mixture of trans-[Cr(CO)2(diphos)2] and a salt of the new cation [Cr(CO)2(diphos)2]+. This cation has been isolated as an aerial oxidation derivative from solution in the presence of perchlorate and tetraphenylborate anions.
