Abstract
E. TakimotoThe shapes of the asymmetric etch pits produced by slow action of hot sulfuric acid on the cleavage planes of tellurium crystals have been investigated, and a microscopic model is proposed for the formation of the etch pits. The handedness of the spiral chains and the positive direction of the x‐axis of the crystal are determined on the basis of the proposed model. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) has been observed in the same crystals and the observed anisotropy in the chemical shift is in good agreement with the calculated one by Shimizu for both right‐ and left‐handed crystals. Keywords
