Abstract
“Catalysis research is not black magic!”maintain proponents of rational design in catalysis research, in response to the assertion made by R. Schlögl (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. Chem.1993,32, 381–383) that the development of practical catalysts is still dependent on empirical facts. A number of industrial processes that depend on finely tuned catalysts are cited in support of their premise. In his reply Schlögl restates his thesis and encourages the productive cooperation of “scientific” and “intuitive” approaches to catalyst design. Keywords
