Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A 52-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of fever.She was well until 14 years previously, when polyarthritis developed, and a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis was made. Two and a half years before admission she was first seen at this hospital because of fever and back pain. There was a remote history of exposure to tuberculosis. Examination disclosed mild polyarthritis and fever. Laboratory studies disclosed pancytopenia and a positive Coombs test. The urine gave a +++ test for protein.
