Abstract
The equilibrium concentration of vacancies and vacancy complexes consisting of a vacancy and i alloying atoms is studied. Applying concepts from group theory, a method is presented which makes possible the exact derivation of all the essentially different configurations of the alloying atoms in a given complex characterized by different formation free enthalpies. The method is used to calculate the concentration of complexes in b.c.c. and f.c.c. metals. The energy of formation of a complex is determined in the quasi-chemical approximation, taking into account second-neighbour interactions as well. The results are discussed in detail. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
