Abstract
Four involving principles resulting in confusion in nomenclature are failure of authors to designate genotype at time of publication of the original name, failure to observe the law of priority, failure to examine the various nomenclators in order to prevent publication of homonyms, and synonymy (objective and subjective). The chief cause of confusion is the failure of professors of zoology to teach their students the elementary principles and practices of zoological nomenclature.
