Abstract
Of all the physical handicaps, none is more socially devastating than facial deformity. Lateral Facial Dysplasia is a term that describe unilateral hypoplasia, microtia, and partial or total deafness. Patients with congenital disorders usually present at a younger age and are more severely affected than those with acquired disorders. They are more likely to require urgent neurosurgery to release prematurely fused sutures or to protect eyesight. Patients with severe congenital disorders were more extreme in their self-rating of appearance, ranging from complete denial of the deformity to self-deprecation. Most preschool and latency-aged children were remarkably able to shut out offending comments, avoid threatening situations, and rationalize their attitudes with far less guilt and anxiety than their parents. Keywords
