Abstract
This degradation does not appear to involve the intervention of organic P compounds. The optimum p H is 8.5, but the optimal range is wide. Glucose, fructose and mannose are degraded equally rapidly in adult rabbits, galactose slowly. In infant rabbits, however, galactose is degraded as rapidly as is glucose.
