Abstract
The elastic interaction energy between a dislocation and a point defect is given in non-local elasticity. The interaction energy has no classical singularity and reaches a maximum at rm=0.68a. As an applied example, the non-local binding energy between an edge dislocation and a carbon atom in BCC iron is 0.5 eV. This result is in very good agreement with the measured value of internal friction, 0.45 eV. The theoretical prediction rm=1.95 AA in body-centred cubic iron is in complete agreement with the value of rFe+rC=1.94 AA-iron atom radius plus carbon atom radius. Keywords
