Abstract
The history and development of IMV have been reviewed. Special attention has been paid to the problems associated with the use of PEEP in combination with IMV. We have described a modification of the Brompton Manley ventilator for use with IMV and PEEP and we have investigated the performance of different types of inspiratory reservoirs. Keywords
