Abstract
Regulation of Somatomedins and Somatomedin ActivityIn view of the original definition of somatomedins as growth hormone-dependent, it is not surprising that the concept of regulation by growth hormone has received much attention. However, it now appears that other factors are also important (Fig. 1), and that their influence may sometimes override that of growth hormone. In addition, somatomedins vary with age in normal subjects (Fig. 2). Young children have values comparable to those in adults with hypopituitarism, and levels rise during childhood, perhaps because of altered end-organ sensitivity. Changes with adolescence and aging appear to be minor but have . . .Keywords
