Abstract
Within the limits of the first Born approximation, the incoherent scatter from a hot plasma is determined in terms of the spectral density of the induced current fluctuations. A significant parameter βe for assessing the importance of relativistic effects is the square root of the ratio of the electron temperature to the rest mass energy of the electron. First‐order corrections in this parameter to the incoherent spectrum are calculated for a plasma in the absence of an external magnetic field. To first order in βe the total cross section remains unaltered. However, an asymmetry in the cross section per unit frequency about the incident frequency, Ω0, does occur. The magnitude and shape of this correction are determined. Keywords
