Abstract
Abnormal Thyroid Function in PregnancyHypothyroidism and PregnancyA relation between hypothyroidism and sterility has long been suspected and repeatedly investigated. This complex and controversial subject is beyond the specific scope of this review. It is pertinent, however, to note that the prevalence of sterility in hypometabolism has been reported to be 30 to 45 per cent,55 , 56 and thyroid medication (as well as many other therapeutic agents) has been proposed as a treatment of sterility, with successful results claimed in up to 30 per cent of cases.56 , 57 Profound hypothyroidism, however, is not incompatible with full-term normal pregnancy.
