Abstract
The catalase activity of human red blood cells was measured in iron-deficient and normal subjects. When expressed as activity per unit volume of red cells, no significant difference between red cells from iron-deficient and normal subjects was found. Because in individuals with iron-deficiency red cells are hypochromic and microcytic, a decrease in catalase activity per 1010 red cells and an increase in catalase activity per gram of hemoglobin was found. Keywords
