Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the relative effectiveness of visual displays containing alpha-numeric material displayed in vertical and horizontal arrangements. Variables included in the experimental design were: types of arrangement of display material, density of material, composition of material, and operator tasks. The major finding in the study was the non-significance of the arrangement variable. It was found that, for all practical purposes, the differential effects of vertical and horizontal arrangement of alpha-numeric materials on operator performance are negligible. Keywords
