Abstract
In chickens weighing 100-200 gm. fasted 24 hrs. and fed by stomach tube into the gizzard with glucose, galactose, lactose, 3-carbon compounds, starch or egg-white, the relative rates of absorption were glucose > galactose > lactose. The rate of liver-glycogen formation was glucose = dihydroxyacetone > alanine > glycerol > Na pyruvate in a series on Barred Plymouth Rock chicks and glucose > galactose > lactose = starch > egg white in a series on S.C. White Leghorn chicks. Muscle glycogen was increased by ingestion of glucose but not by that of any of the other substances. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
