Abstract
The behaviour of a free electron in a homogeneous but time varying external field is analysed and exact results are presented. Based on the exact wavefunction obtained, a new perturbation method for treating intense field problems is proposed. In particular, the transition amplitude of nonlinear direct and inverse bremsstrahlung is calculated. Keywords
