Abstract
Hydrological data from the New Zealand to Norfolk Island region in August and September 1972 showed a weakly developed Mid‐Tasman Convergence. Vertical sections through this front show it slopes under the warm water side of the front and is confined to the upper 200 m layer. The Mid‐Tasman Convergence appears to be marked at the surface by the 35.5‐35.6%o isohalines, but surface temperatures at the front vary considerably from year to year. In August‐September 1972, sea surface temperatures in this region were lower than average.
