Abstract
Similarities and contrasts in the descriptive chemistry of aqua and ammine complexes of mthenium are discussed. The reactivities of the two classes of coordination compounds are compared; both show a remarkable tendency to form complexes with π-accepting ligands, including alkenes and alkynes. The exploitation of Ru(H2O)6 2+ as a versatile preparative reagent is demonstrated. Keywords
