Abstract
The recursion method is used to calculate the electronic states of a model two-dimensional crystal embedded in another host crystal. The valence and the conduction bands have considerable mismatch so that a quantum well is formed. The results of the calculation show that the recursion method is capable of deriving the quantum-well states quite efficiently. Comparison with results derived from the effective-mass theory shows that the quantum-well states can be fitted quite well with a simple potential-well model.
