Abstract
A remarkably stable microscopic tunnel junction can be made with two crossed wires separated by a monolayer of adsorbed molecules. Inelastic tunneling peaks of hydrocarbons are clearly resolved. A wide Coulomb blockade of single-electron tunneling is observed, indicating that stray capacitance does not influence the microscopic junction. Keywords
