Giant Quadrupole Resonance inMg24,26: A Comparison of Inelastic-Scattering andα-Capture Experiments

Abstract
The distribution of giant quadrupole resonance strength in Mg24,26 obtained from inelastic α- and proton-scattering experiments and α-capture experiments have now been shown to be compatible. The results show that the giant quadrupole resonance strength in Mg24 and Mg26 is fragmented into several states or clusters of states and suggest that the giant quadrupole resonance states have very different α0-decay strength.
