Abstract
It is important that we have information on the role of physical therapists in the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the hip prior to total hip arthroplasty. This article describes the management of a patient with limited range of motion of the right hip due to osteoarthritis. The patient made a significant improvement with decreased pain, increased range of motion of the right hip, increased periarticular muscle strength, improved gait, and improved mobility. One year later, the patient had a right total hip arthroplasty. The rationale of the management of patients with osteoarthritis of the hip is discussed. In addition, the role of physical therapists in the management and treatment of patients with osteoarthritis prior to total hip arthroplasty is discussed. Keywords
