Abstract
A case is reported of a previously undescribed complication of epidemic parotitis. Literature review reveals reports of mumps complicated by myocarditis and arthralgia. The diagnosis was confirmed by friction rub, ecg. alterations characterized by T wave inversions, and the development of a fibrous pleuro-pericardial adhesion. It was differentiated from rheumatic pericarditis by positive mumps complement-fixation test, absence of endocarditis, absence of streptococci in throat cultures, negative antistreptolysin titers, and benign course without residua. The complement fixation test later became negative. Keywords
