Abstract
A study was completed on the 28 states that introduced family leave legislation in 1987. Shown by the findings is that only four states passed bills and only one of those included elder care in its provisions, that advocates of the elderly did not participate in the policymaking process, and that more attention should be devoted to proposals that are intergenerational in focus and designed to aid informal supports. Keywords
