Abstract
The Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center was forced to evacuate 242 of its patients on a cold December night in response to internal flooding. The move was accomplished rapidly and safely, with patients being dispersed to sixteen area hospitals. Coordination was accomplished through the Office of Emergency Preparedness. After five days of planning, repairs and cleaning, patients were returned to the hospital. Some increase in morbidity was found, however mortality rates declined during and after the evacuation. Keywords
