Neutron microscopy

Abstract
We report on the performance of the achromatic two-mirror neutron microscope at the Institut Laue-Langevin as investigated at the new strong source of ultracold neutrons. Using magnifications of up to 240 a resolution of about 10 μm was observed. We also present a general analysis of UCN imaging by optical systems with an arbitrary number of mirrors. On this basis the geometrical constraints for highly achromatic systems are discussed. A specific class of aplanatic and achromatic four-mirror systems is analysed in detail
