Abstract
Spontaneously broken gauge theory viewed in terms of physical fields is identified as a nonlinear realization of the symmetry. In particular Nambu-Goldstone fields play the role of the auxiliary fields that are needed for a Callan-Coleman-Wess-Zumino nonlinear realization. Possible advantages of the nonlinear realization as an alternative approach to the Higgs mechanism in unifying color and flavor interactions are speculated. Keywords
