Abstract
Our cumulative knowledge about the determinants of substate integration is extremely limited. Few studies have examined support for integration across a variety of policy activities and mechanisms. Drawing on demand and supply side explanations for integration, this article tests a typology of substate functional integration. The correlates of functional integration are examined against previous research hypotheses in order to resolve ambiguities in our understanding of the adoption of functional integration. Keywords
