Dose response and minimal daily requirement for vitamin K in man.

Abstract
Total starvation combined with antibiotic therapy affecting the intestinal flora induced vitamin K deficiency in man after 3-4 weeks. Starvation alone over 4-5 weeks did not result in vitamin K depletion. A straight-line correlation was observed between the log of the intravenous vitamin K1 dose and the reciprocal values of Quick''s prothrombin times. The minimal daily requirement for vitamin K1 in adult man corresponds or is slightly above 0.03 [mu]g/kg body wt.
