Measurement of the Branching of $ϒ (2 S) \to π^{+} π^{-} + ϒ (1 S)$

Abstract

We have observed the decay of the

ϒ (2 S)

into the

ϒ (1 S)

, obtaining a branching ratio of 19.1±3.1±2.9% for the mode

ϒ (2 S) \to π^{+} π^{-} + ϒ (1 S)

. The di-pion mass spectrum peaks at large invariant mass, and the angular distribution of the di-pion system is consistent with

s

-wave production.
