Abstract
This paper attempts to think about the ambivalence felt by the profession towards brief psychodynamic therapy. Drawing both on the historical context of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and the discussion of clinical material, a model of brief psychodynamic therapy is outlined. Some of the advantages and difficulties of brief therapy, particularly in educational and public sector settings, are described. Keywords
