Abstract
The magnetic structure of the frustrated fcc antiferromagnet was investigated by measuring the magnetic susceptibility, Mössbauer effect and neutron diffraction. We propose a partially disordered structure of type III , in which only the Gd atoms in every second (010) layer are ordered and the remaining half of the atoms sandwiched by the static layers fluctuate dynamically just below and slow down to exhibit glass-like freezing of the layers at lower temperatures. This partially disordered state is the first example found for the fcc lattice which is driven not by the moment instability but by the dynamical (entropy) effect. Keywords
