THYROID THERAPY AND THE SKULL BONE PATTERN OF THYROPARATHYROIDECTOMIZED RATS

Abstract
[longdash]Roentgenograms showed a mosaic pattern in the bones of the normal rat skull. This pattern became blurred after thyroparathyroidectomy. Addition of thyroid (0.02%) to the diet did not preserve the normal pattern. The bones were harder and more dense than those of operated animals not receiving thyroid, but were relatively brittle compared with the normal. Feeding thyroid ac- celerated growth of the operated animals, as indicated both by body wt. and size of bones.
